StayWarm Wear is a distributor for companies who have manufactured products for the United States Department of Defense since 1988 and continue to do so today! The product works for two main reasons:
- First, it keeps you dry. Polypropylene is a petroleum based product. Therefore, unlike other products, it cannot absorb moisture from your body. It is not waterproof; it just does not absorb your body's moisture like cotton will. Also, due to the hydrophobic properties of polypropylene, it will wick away moisture more quickly than other fabrics. If you are not dry it is very difficult to be warm, so staying dry is the first step.
- Second, Polypropylene (polyolefin to be exact) has the LOWEST thermal conductivity of any wearable fibers. Thermal conductivity, in this example, is the passage of your body heat through the fabric you are wearing. The lower the thermal conductivity the better. A good analogy is the brick exterior on a house. Brick has a very low thermal conductivity. Therefore, the natural properties of brick keep more heat from transferring through to the outside. Similarly, polypropylene's low thermal conductivity will keep more of your body heat from transferring through your clothing to the outside!
